Reborn Without a Bond, Chosen by a Dragon Plot Recap & Cast

The SSS-class lion is loose, the hall is stampeding, and the headmaster is screaming for everyone to run. One girl limps forward instead. She looks at the foaming, thrashing beast and doesn't see a monster. She sees a patient with a very bad stomach.

That girl is Chloe. And that one moment is about to flip an entire academy upside down.

The Girl Everyone Wrote Off

Chloe wasn't always a first-year at Ashwood Academy. She was a veterinarian, working at her clinic until an electrical accident threw her into a shifter world where everything runs on beast-binding ranks. She wakes up in a new body with two problems: a crippled leg and zero bonding ability. In this world, that makes her worthless.

The bullying starts immediately. Senior student James leads the charge, and Headmaster Lucian barely hides his contempt. His idea of handling her is to dump her in the detention zone to feed the beasts, like a chore for someone who can't do anything else.

What nobody bothers to notice: this world is obsessed with shifter ranks, but nobody has studied how to actually heal the beasts. Chloe has a scalpel. She has years of surgical training. She's the only person in the room with real skills, and they're all laughing at her.

A Scalpel Against an SSS-Class Beast

Then Leo breaks free. An SSS-class lion off his collar, and not a single student can hold him back. Lucian orders everyone out. James shoves past her with a sneer, calling her a talentless waste of space. The crowd glares when she steps forward instead of running.

She spots it fast: Leo's abdomen is bloated. He's lashing out because he's in pain, not because he's a killer. Something hard is stuck in his gut.

"Calm down. It's just a bowel obstruction."

The lion charges at her. She doesn't flinch. She sets a hand on his belly and tells him she can help.

"I can fix it. Trust me. Lie down."

And Leo, an SSS-class beast everyone fears, lowers himself to the ground. Dead silence. Then she asks for one brave volunteer to hold him still. The hecklers wait for her to get mauled. Instead, Dexter steps out. A fellow first-year, bullied right alongside her, the only one who ever slipped her half a protein bar when no one was looking. She tells him she's got this, just stay close. She wipes her homemade blade with alcohol, warns the lion not to move, and makes the cut.

The Headmaster Who Steals the Show

She pulls out the blockage, and Leo goes limp, then licks her face and nuzzles into her chest like a giant kitten. But the real prize is what she finds in his gut: a black shard, sanded smooth, with a name etched into the center.

Selina. Her sister's name.

Before she can process it, Lucian swoops in and takes credit for everything. He announces that Chloe was merely testing a method he taught her, and the crowd eats it up. Of course the headmaster planned this. Of course a no-talent first-year could never fix Leo on her own. Then he hands her a "reward": serve at his side from now on. Chloe says nothing and pockets the shard.

She knows exactly what that reward means. He saw her pull out the shard. He wants her close to keep her quiet. James makes the threat plain, shoving her and warning her to say thank you, or he'll break her good leg too.

So Chloe plays the humble first-year and sets a trap.

"If you say you taught me this method, headmaster, then the next step must be yours to do too."

Sutures. If he knows the surgery so well, he can close the incision himself. Every student's eyes lock on Lucian. He takes one stiff step forward, and Leo's ears flatten. The lion kicks him flying, then breathes a jet of flame straight at him. Lucian's coat bursts into flames, and he barely slaps them out in time. Leo licks his paw, looking perfectly innocent. Chloe laughs, then points out the cut already healed on its own.

The Voice in the Shard

Here's where the story turns cold. The shard in her pocket warms up, and a tiny voice whispers into her ear. It's Selina.

Chloe's sister left home years ago, claiming she'd gotten into Ashwood Academy and would come back for her once she became the greatest beastbinder the world had ever seen. Chloe saved for three years and brought her favorite caramel cookies to surprise her. But there's no Selina on record at Ashwood. Not one. And yet Chloe found her pendant in the detention wing, which is exactly why she never complained about being stuck there. That's where the answers were hiding.

The shard goes cold again, and Chloe's heart hammers.

"Why did the bone shard sound like Selina? What happened to her?"

She's left with a terrifying question: did Lucian feed her sister to the beast? And a bigger one lurking under it all, because this academy clearly hides cruel human-beast experiments behind its polished halls. Chloe has a secret dragon connection growing inside her, a headmaster watching her every move, and a missing sister whose voice is trapped in a bone shard.

For anyone who loves an underdog heroine who fights back with brains instead of brute force, Chloe's story is one to watch.
