Synopsis

Lily Smith, a human, is abducted and brought to Kepler as a test subject. She discovers she can hear the thoughts of Prince Nova, a royal baby with uncontrollable energy powers. When Nova is trapped in an overloaded nursery pod, Lily defies the king's orders and saves him, revealing that the pod was tampered with. King Dorian, cold and overprotective, initially distrusts her but is forced to acknowledge her unique connection to Nova. As Lily becomes Nova's nanny, she challenges royal traditions—changing his diet, protecting him from harmful sunlight, and insisting on emotional care. Dorian's brother, Prince Zorak, and other nobles plot against her, but Dorian gradually defends her. At the interstellar summit, Nova is sucked into a black hole, and Lily's ability to hear his thoughts allows her to guide him back. When dark matter threatens Lily, Dorian risks his own life to save her, revealing his growing feelings. The story explores themes of trust, tradition versus innovation, and the bond between a human and an alien royal family.

Imagine being scolded by an alien king for saving his baby brother's life.

That's exactly where Lily Smith lands. One minute she's a human "test subject" on a planet she never asked to visit, the next she's being threatened with death for touching a royal pod. And the wildest part? She only did it because the baby inside was screaming in her head.

The Human Who Heard a Prince

Lily Smith gets abducted and dropped onto Kepler as a lab rat. The first thing she learns is that she's not a guest—she's an experiment.

A noble snaps at her: "You're just a lowly human test subject. Don't scare our little prince."

Then the nursery pod goes wrong. Royal babies are supposed to absorb life energy and pop the pod open themselves. Prince Nova can't. The pod is overloaded, energy still surging, and everyone just stands there quoting protocol.

And then Lily hears him. Not out loud—inside her own mind. The baby is begging to get out.

She moves. Guards warn her off, citing the king's orders. She doesn't care.

"He can't breathe. We need to get him out now."

She cracks the pod open and pulls Prince Nova free.

Her reward? King Dorian's fury. "Who gave you permission to touch my brother?"

The King Who Wouldn't Melt

Dorian is cold, overprotective, and absolutely convinced Lily is either lying or dangerous. He demands to know how she wants to die for nearly killing Nova.

Lily doesn't flinch. She explains the pod was overloaded, that Nova wasn't refusing to come out—he couldn't. And when the controls get checked, someone tampered with them.

The king's advisor Morura swears she didn't know. Nobody's buying it fully, but the damage is done: the pod was sabotaged.

Then Nova reaches for Lily. The baby likes her. That changes everything.

Dorian makes her Nova's nanny—over the loud objections of every traditionalist in the room. When they sneer that she's a "primitive human," he fires back that if she can care for Nova, she's worth more than the rest of them.

But the thaw is slow. Lily notices Nova's food makes him sick—the fancy royal "core milk" hurts his stomach. She swaps it for something simpler. The court calls it blasphemy.

Dorian watches. "He's a child, not a rule," Lily says, and nobody has a comeback.

Later, Dorian admits something quietly devastating: dozens of nannies before her, and not one ever told him what Nova actually needed. They just asked for more things. He thought that was love.

Black Holes and Bad Brothers

The danger isn't just tradition. Prince Zorak, Dorian's brother, wants what Dorian has. He seethes when Lily gets promoted to chief nanny before the interstellar summit.

"That should have been mine," he mutters. "Damn human."

At the summit, everything goes wrong. The sun is brutal, nobles mock Lily for shielding Nova, and then a ceremonial black hole display gets too close. Nova—curious, tiny, unable to resist touching everything—gets sucked in.

The court writes him off. "A black hole consumes everything." Zorak smells blood and demands the human be thrown in too. Dorian, grieving and raging, threatens everyone responsible with death.

But Lily can still hear Nova. He's alive, stuck near the edge.

"I can save him," she says.

Nobody believes her—not even Dorian, who points out that he can't sense Nova. But she's the only one who knows.

So she steps toward a black hole. Alone.

And that's when the cold king does something that changes everything. When dark matter threatens to destroy Lily, Dorian throws himself in front of it, armor screaming warnings, and growls the line that proves his frozen heart has fully cracked: "You don't get to die unless I say so."

Will Lily pull Nova back from the edge? Can Dorian survive the dark matter? And who sabotaged that pod in the first place—because someone in this palace still wants the royal family broken?

If you've ever felt like an outsider who found family in the strangest place, this one's for you.
