Synopsis

Sofia Rossi is the heiress to New York's mafia empire. Her father, Don Rossi, is dying and demands she marry to secure the alliance. On her eighteenth birthday, she must choose among four heirs: Lucien Beaumont, Liam O'Connell, Adrian Ashford, and Sebastian Morelli. Sofia has loved Sebastian since childhood, but she overhears him confessing his love for Olivia, a servant. Devastated, she decides to let fate choose and blind-picks Lucien, the notorious playboy. At the engagement banquet, Sebastian coldly informs Sofia he loves another, and Olivia stages a scene to make Sofia look cruel. Sebastian sides with Olivia, deepening Sofia's hurt. The next day, at the five families summit, Sofia runs the meeting due to her father's illness. She witnesses Sebastian and Olivia's intimacy. Suddenly, armed men attack. Sebastian hesitates and then flees with Olivia, leaving Sofia to die. Lucien arrives with Liam and Adrian, saves Sofia, and eliminates the attackers. Sofia's father punishes Olivia, and Sebastian accuses Sofia of jealousy. Sofia, realizing Sebastian's true nature, ends their relationship. She begins to see Lucien in a new light, sensing he is not just a playboy.

She's eighteen, her father is dying, and the entire New York mafia empire is hers—if she marries first. Standing before four photos of the heirs she grew up with, Sofia Rossi is supposed to pick a husband. She walks in ready to choose her first love. Then she hears his voice through a crack in the door.

"I will marry you, Olivia. Not even the Rossi family can change my mind."

Her first love. On her birthday. With the servant girl.

Sofia doesn't cry. She doesn't beg. She picks up the photos, closes her eyes, and lets fate decide.

She gets the playboy. Big mistake? Or the best move of her life?

The Blindfold Gamble

Sofia isn't some rich girl playing dress-up. She opens the story with a line that tells you exactly who she is:

"I'm Sofia Rossi, New York's future mafia queen by blood. Whoever marries me takes the second seat of power in the alliance."

That's the prize on the table. Her father, Sofia Rossi, is sick and dying, and he needs his only heiress married before he goes. So the four candidates line up: Lucien Beaumont, Liam O'Connell, Adrian Ashford, and Sebastian Morelli.

Sofia has loved Sebastian since she was a kid. She was sure she'd choose him. Then she overhears him confessing his love for Olivia—and admitting that Sofia is still "power" and "status." Ouch. He wants the girl, but he's not about to turn down the crown.

So when her father clears his throat and tells her to choose, Sofia says the line that flips the whole story:

"I want fate to decide."

She picks Lucien Beaumont. The notorious playboy. The party animal. The one everyone warns her about. Her father asks if she's sure. She doesn't flinch. He grins: "Good. That's my girl." The engagement banquet is set for three days out.

And here's the detail that makes it delicious—Lucien doesn't even know he's been chosen yet. He's downstairs, sprawled on a couch with his shirt unbuttoned, swiping on his phone. When he hears her steps, he looks up and asks, "So, princess, which one of us did you pick?"

Sofia just smiles to herself and walks out to the garden.

The Man Everyone Warned Her About

Sebastian corners her in the garden, eager to break her heart gently. "Sofia, I'm already in love with someone else."

He fully expects her to cling. Instead she tells him, "Don't worry, I won't hang on to you anymore. Go marry the girl you love." You can practically hear his brain short-circuit. He wasn't ready to be let go.

Then Olivia makes her entrance—literally. She crashes into Sofia with a cake, sending her onto the marble with a scraped elbow and frosting all over her face. Before Sofia can say a word, Olivia slaps herself and bursts into tears. "I'm so sorry, Miss Rossi! It was an accident!"

Sebastian immediately roars at Sofia. "Don't abuse your power."

Sofia's response is ice: "Abuse my power? I haven't said a single word." Then she delivers the slap Olivia gave herself—for real. "Fine. That is an abuse of power. Now you know the difference."

The red mark blooms on Olivia's cheek. Sebastian yells her name. She corrects him without blinking: "Call me Miss Rossi."

Lucien, watching from the sidelines, grins: "Nice move."

That's the thing about Sofia—she's not a doormat, and she's not a villain. She's a woman who just got humiliated and is done pretending it didn't happen. But the story makes sure you feel the ache underneath. She remembers being seven, falling into the water, and Sebastian pulling her out. He was the closest to her once. Somewhere along the way, he couldn't stand that his power would depend on a woman. The family agreement that brought them together is the same thing that tore them apart.

The Ambush That Told the Truth

The next day is the annual summit of the five families alliance. Sofia Rossi's health crashes, so Sofia has to run the meeting in his place. She's barely had time to breathe when she slips onto the terrace for air—and hears Olivia's voice.

Olivia feeds Sebastian a piece of tiramisu by hand. He eats it, licks her finger, smiles. Sofia can't breathe. And then the terrace fills with armed men. Over a dozen of them, dropping in from everywhere.

The attackers give Sebastian an out: "Leave her here and we won't kill you."

For one heartbeat, he hesitates. Then he grabs Olivia and runs—leaving Sofia with a gun to her skull. The man she loved since childhood just chose the exit.

This is where the story turns. The gun vanishes. Sofia opens her eyes, and Lucien is standing there with a cigarette in one hand and a bone-handled blade in the other. "Sorry I'm late, princess. Traffic was a nightmare."

Liam and Adrian have already taken out most of the gunmen. Liam goes pale when he sees the blood on Sofia's dress, thinking it's hers. It isn't—but the point lands. The playboy nobody trusted showed up. The first love ran.

Back home, Sofia Rossi is furious. But he's too sick to take on the Morelli family, so he makes an example of Olivia instead—stringing her up in the water dungeon that night. Sebastian kicks Sofia's door open, demanding to know why she'd do this.

Sofia's answer is quiet and devastating: "Sebastian, I almost died today. Aren't you going to ask how I am?"

He looks her up and down and sneers: "You're fine, aren't you? A dozen men came running to save you, Miss Rossi. Olivia only had me, and you locked her in that water dungeon out of petty jealousy."

He actually believes her near-death was a scheme. That's the moment Sofia closes her eyes and has the guards drag him out. She's done. Done seeing him. Done talking to him.

What She Doesn't Know Yet

Sofia picked Lucien as a gamble—a way to let fate decide after love burned her. But the man she got isn't just a party animal. He moves like someone who's been in a hundred fights. He shows up exactly when it matters. He calls her "princess" like it's a private joke only he understands.

And the story promises something bigger: assassins, family conspiracies, forbidden romance, a deadly coup. Somewhere in all of it is Lucien's true identity—and the truth about who has loved her all along.

So ask yourself: was the blindfold the worst decision of Sofia's life, or the luckiest? She couldn't see who she was picking. Maybe that's exactly why she finally picked right.

Which would you choose: the first love who broke you or the playboy who might save you?
