Synopsis
Elena Carter's life turns upside down when she catches her husband cheating and flips him over her shoulder. After a bitter divorce, she needs money and applies for a private security job paying $10,000 a month. But she walks into the wrong interview at the Romano estate, where Dante Romano, a powerful mob boss, is looking for a wife and stepmother for his seven-year-old son, Leo. Despite her initial refusal, Dante offers her $100,000 a month for a contractual marriage. Elena signs, seeing it as a job. Leo, a mischievous boy who wears three pairs of pants and pulls pranks, immediately tries to drive her away with challenges—skateboarding, video games, slingshots, and fighting. Elena wins every challenge, earning Leo's grudging respect. She also gets him to eat vegetables and go to school. Dante watches her with growing interest, and a late-night encounter reveals her true appearance without her glasses and bangs. Dante is intrigued, but Elena remains focused on her job. When Leo skips school to become an influencer, Elena volunteers to bring him back, showing her dedication. Meanwhile, her ex-husband, now married to his secretary, sees her in a designer gown and tries to win her back as a mistress, but Leo and Dante intervene, claiming her as part of the family.
She thought she was interviewing to be a bodyguard. She walked out as a mafia boss's contract wife. And the worst part? Her cheating ex is about to show up and try to win her back.
Elena Carter's story starts with a flip. Not a metaphor—an actual, physics-defying flip that sends her cheating husband crashing to the floor. "The day I caught my husband cheating, I flipped him over my shoulder and slammed him to the floor," she says, and you can practically hear the satisfaction.
He screams that she dresses like she doesn't own a mirror, that all she knows is fighting, that she has no feminine bone in her body. Then he divorces her and marries his soft-spoken secretary. Elena walks away with almost nothing.

So she needs a paycheck. A private security listing offers $10,000 a month. She grabs the ad and heads to the Romano estate on Long Island.
That's where everything goes sideways.
The Wrong Room, The Right Disaster
The foyer is full of women in bodycon dresses and perfect hair. Elena, in an oversized tracksuit with heavy bangs and thick black glasses, sticks out like a sore thumb.
A heavily made-up woman bursts out laughing. "Where did you crawl out from dressed like that? They wouldn't even hire you as a housekeeper, and you think you have a shot at becoming Mrs. Romano?"

Elena ignores her. She's here for the bodyguard job. Except the other women aren't exactly dressed for combat either—and Elena can't help wondering how they'd throw a punch in those heels.
Then the pranks start. A click above her, and several buckets of makeup remover dump down from the ceiling. A seven-year-old boy appears at the top of the stairs, wearing three pairs of pants layered over each other, a lollipop hanging from his mouth like he's the coolest kid alive.
"I'm Dante Romano. You want into my family? You're gonna have to do better than that."
He presses a button. Hidden launchers fire dozens of rubber balls across the foyer. Women scream and duck, losing their heels as they run. Elena stands calmly in the middle of the chaos, genuinely confused. This is the security test? It's way too easy.
She sidesteps a few balls, fires off quick kicks, and sends them straight back. The last one whizzes past Dante's cheek and knocks the lollipop right out of his mouth. His eyes go wide. "Did you just hit me?"
"I didn't hit you," she says with an awkward smile. "Your trap just needs work."
A deep voice comes from behind her. "What's your name?"
Dante Romano. Tall, sharp-featured, wearing a long black coat, with the kind of presence that makes people instinctively move out of his way. He's the head of the Romano family, one of the most powerful in New York. He doesn't ask about her fighting skills. He tells the butler to bring him the contract.
"Sign the agreement today, then we'll get the marriage license taken care of."
Elena freezes. "Wait, I'm here for the private security job. The one paying ten grand a month."
The butler stares at her. The security interviews are in the building next door. This interview is for Mr. Romano's wife and Dante's stepmother.
She was in the wrong place. She turns to leave. Ten men in black suits step forward and block her path.
Dante holds out the contract. "The security job pays $10,000 a month. Become Dante's stepmother, live here, keep him in line—you'll make $100,000 a month." He raises an eyebrow. "Read the terms first, then decide if you still want to leave."
The $100,000 Question and a Seven-Year-Old's War
Elena hesitates. She just got divorced. She tells Dante she's bad luck—men who marry her tend to end up miserable. Her ex barely survived her. Dante doesn't blink. "I don't believe in that, and I'm hard to kill."
The butler shuts the door. There's no easy way out. Elena takes a breath and lays out her terms: she only takes care of Dante, it's strictly a contract marriage, room and board included, and the money is hers to spend however she wants. Dante nods. It's all in the agreement. Just don't send Dante to the hospital.
Nobody turns down money, Elena thinks. And if they do, the amount just isn't high enough. She picks up the pen.
Dante slaps his hand on the agreement. "No, I don't want her to be my stepmom." Elena holds his head down with one hand and signs with the other. "Sorry, kid. You don't have to like me, but you'll have to get used to me." She pats his shoulder. He's never calling her mom. "That's fine. I'm not picky." She puts the agreement away. "You can call me boss."
At the city clerk's office, Dante hands her the marriage documents. "From today on, you only need to take care of Dante. I don't expect anything else from you." Elena nods. "Good, neither do I." Dante narrows his eyes. "And don't let being Mrs. Romano give you the wrong idea about me." She pushes up her glasses. "Don't worry, Mr. Romano. I'm not interested in you. I'm only interested in the hundred thousand dollars a month."
Dante falls silent.
Back at the estate, Dante races down the stairs on a skateboard. "Farm girl, I challenge you. If you lose, get out of my house." Elena catches the skateboard. Fine. But if he loses, he calls her mom, eats and sleeps on time, and takes off two of those three pairs of pants. Dante thumps his chest. He's the skate king around here.
He races downhill. His board goes out of control, sending him straight toward a wall. Elena grabs him by the back of his shirt just before impact, lifting him off the ground. His skateboard snaps in half. Dante goes pale, legs still kicking in the air.
"Skate king?" she says.
"The board was broken. That doesn't count."
Elena steps onto her skateboard, races down the hill, turns in midair before the wall, and lands smoothly in front of him. "Does it count now?"
Video games? She beats him ten rounds. Slingshot? She covers her eyes with a cloth and splits an apple in half blindfolded. Fighting? First round he's on the ground. Second round she spins him around by his shirt. Third round she sweeps his leg and he lands on the grass, eyes turning red. "You're playing with me like I'm some puppy."
She crouches down. "Had enough?"
"No, you're only winning because you're older."
"I was better than you when I was seven."
"I'm still not calling you mom."
"Fine, then I won't be your mom." She pushes his pointing hand down. "From now on, I'm the boss and you're my rookie."
Then she points at his pants. "First take off two pairs. You can barely move." He protests that it's influencer style. She laughs. "You run like you've got a diaper wedged between your legs." Dante sits on the ground and starts crying. Dante, standing under the covered patio, turns his head and lets out a quiet laugh. Dante's face goes red. "Dad, you're laughing at me too?"
Ten minutes later, Dante is at the dining table in normal clothes, cheeks puffed up like a little pufferfish. Elena puts broccoli on his plate. He covers his mouth. "I'm not eating that." She tells him to finish it and she'll teach him that move from earlier. His eyes light up and he stuffs the broccoli in his mouth. The butler's voice trembles. Dante hasn't willingly eaten vegetables in six months. Dante looks at Elena for a long moment. "Looks like that $100,000 is money well spent."
The Boss's Glasses, The Ex's Audacity
That night, Elena sits alone on the couch after putting Dante to bed. Her glasses hurt the bridge of her nose. She takes them off, closes her eyes, and accidentally falls asleep. Half-asleep, she feels someone brush her heavy bangs aside. Her eyes snap open and she throws a punch. Dante catches her fist with one hand and reaches for her waist with the other. She drives her knee up, but he shifts aside and pins her against the couch.
"Don't move."
Their breath mingles. Dante stares at her face, his gaze growing darker. "Elena, so this is what you really look like."
The living room light flicks on. Dante stands on the stairs holding a pillow, scratching his head. "What kind of move are you practicing that requires you to hold each other like that?"
Elena shoves Dante away and puts her glasses back on. "Grappling."
"What kind of grappling gets you that close?"
Dante adjusts his cuffs. "The kind used to subdue an opponent."
"Then why were you touching her face?"
Dante's gaze darkens. "Don't you have school tomorrow?" Dante shivers, hugs his pillow, and runs. "Good night."
Elena starts to leave, but Dante stops her. His eyes settle on her black-framed glasses, his expression unreadable. "The glasses suit you." She touches the frame. Did the mob boss think she looked worse without them?
The next morning, Dante is gone. The butler stands there holding a note, sweating. Dante skipped school again. The handwriting is scrawled across the paper: School is useless. I'm gonna be an influencer. I can get famous without dad's money.
Dante's face darkens. "Bring him back." A row of bodyguards moves toward the door. Elena spreads her arms and blocks the doorway. "If you drag Dante back now, he'll only rebel harder. Let me bring him back. Besides, you said you wouldn't interfere with how I handle him." Dante is silent for a moment, then lifts a hand. "Stand down. Let her go."
Elena pulls out her phone and easily opens Dante's livestream account. There he is, wearing three pairs of pants again, singing in the middle of a public plaza. There are only two viewers. One is the butler. The other is her. She immediately has an idea.
And that's when the story really gets good—because the ex-husband is about to walk back into the picture, and he's about to see Elena in a custom designer gown that makes him forget how to breathe. He'll think she dressed up to make him regret leaving. He'll offer her a chance to come back as his mistress. And he'll learn very quickly that this woman has a new family now—one with a seven-year-old bodyguard and a mob boss who doesn't share.
