Synopsis
Damian, known as a psycho, is sold into marriage with Adriana Vitale, a powerful mafia queen who is absent on business. He arrives at her estate to find a cold welcome and two children, Nico and Sophia, who are neglected and mistreated by Lorenzo, Adriana's brother-in-law, who controls the household. Damian, reminded of his own abusive childhood, immediately bonds with Nico and earns Sophia's distrust. He clashes with Lorenzo over his treatment of the children, first when Lorenzo grabs Nico, and later at breakfast when he is served moldy bread while Lorenzo and Salvatore eat lavishly. Damian retaliates by dumping caviar on Lorenzo and threatening him, then demands that the children eat first. That night, he catches Enzo, Lorenzo's son, torturing Sophia with a cigarette, and intervenes, warning Enzo that his father can come if he dares. The conflict escalates as Damian asserts his authority, determined to protect the children and take control of the estate.
The most feared woman on the East Coast wasn't there for her own wedding. But her two terrified kids were waiting at home.
Damian signed the marriage papers alone, a framed photo of Adriana Vitale standing in for the bride. Everyone whispered. Everyone laughed. He walked back down the red carpet by himself, chin up, and let them pity him.
He didn't need a wife. He needed a house, an empire, and a wall between himself and the family that sold him off.
What he got instead was a cold mansion, a cruel uncle running the place—and a five-year-old boy tugging at his sleeve.
The Boy at the Door
Damian had barely put his bag down when he heard the soft tap. He opened the door to find Nico in oversized pajamas, shivering, dark curls falling over huge brown eyes.

"Are you my dad now?" the boy asked, voice trembling. "Do I really have a dad?"
Damian's chest cracked open. Twenty years ago, he was that kid—eight years old, standing in a hallway, waiting for a stepfather to want him. No one ever did.
He crouched down until they were eye to eye. "Yeah, buddy, you've got a dad now."
Behind Nico, a girl hovered half-hidden in the hall. Sophia, maybe ten, arms crossed, jaw tight. She didn't say a word. She didn't have to. Damian knew that look—it was the look of a kid who'd learned that trusting people gets you hurt.
Then came the heavy footsteps. Lorenzo Vitali.
Three Times Damian Made Them Fear Him
Lorenzo ran that house. Adriana's brother-in-law, her dead sister's husband, dressed in designer clothes at eleven on a Tuesday night—he looked Damian up and down like something stuck to his shoe.
Then he grabbed Nico by the arm and dug his fingers in.
Nico flinched, his whole body going stiff, but he made no sound. He'd learned long ago not to cry. Damian's hand shot out and clamped around Lorenzo's wrist. He didn't squeeze. He didn't have to.

"Don't touch him."
Lorenzo yanked back. "He's shy. He just met me." He looked down at Nico. "Tell him—did I hurt you?"
Nico shook his head. Fast. Way too fast. Damian didn't miss it.
Strike one.
The next morning, Damian saw the whole picture. The estate had three wings. Lorenzo ran the west one. The old family head, Salvatore, lived in the east. And Adriana's two children were shoved into two small rooms by the servants' entrance.
Sophia's closet was empty. Nico had three outfits, all too small and worn thin. No toys. Not one book. Just a mattress on the floor and a thin blanket—in the richest mob family's home in the city.
Meanwhile, Lorenzo's nine-year-old son Enzo had a room the size of an apartment, new clothes, new toys, and staff waiting on him like he was the only heir in the house.
At breakfast, Damian's plate held a slice of bread, rock hard, edges turning green. Lorenzo didn't even look up. "The kitchen didn't know what you like. They kept it simple. You don't mind, do you?"
He chuckled. Salvatore chuckled too. The staff along the wall didn't.
Damian picked up the bread, looked at it, and set it down. Then he stood, walked over, and grabbed the silver dish of caviar.
"You're right, Lorenzo. I should eat whatever this house serves."
He dumped it down Lorenzo's silk shirt. Black caviar slid over five-hundred-dollar fabric. Lorenzo roared. Salvatore slammed his espresso cup down. The staff pressed themselves against the wall.
Damian hauled Lorenzo out of his chair by the tie. "Get this straight. If I eat trash, you eat off the floor. If my kids go hungry, your son doesn't touch a plate."
Strike two.
"Start breakfast over for everyone," Damian said, fixing his cuffs. Nobody moved. "From now on, the kids eat first. Nobody touches food before they do. Do you understand?"
The staff glanced at Salvatore. Now Damian knew who they really feared. He slammed his palm against the table. "Do I need to say it again?"
"Yes, sir." Three voices, at once.
Twenty minutes later, fresh food came out. Sophia and Nico were served first—eggs, toast, fruit, juice. They ate in silence, glancing up every few seconds like someone might snatch the plates away.
Nobody did. Not ever again.
Strike three came that night. A muffled sob drifted down the hall. Damian followed it to Sophia's room and didn't knock.
Enzo was sitting on Sophia's chest, pinning her wrists, holding a lit cigarette inches from her face. She didn't fight back. She lay frozen, tears running into her hair, jaw clenched—because someone had taught her that fighting only made it worse.
"Shut up," Enzo hissed. "You want me to tell my dad to lock you in the basement again?"
Damian kicked the door wide open. "Get off her."
Enzo didn't look scared. Just annoyed. "Get out. This isn't your business."
Damian crossed the room in three strides and grabbed him by the collar. "Touch me and my dad will ruin you," Enzo spat.
Damian gave him a cold smile. "Your dad isn't here. He can come if he's got the guts."
The Wife in the Frame
Here's the thing about Damian: he didn't want to be feared by children. He wanted to be feared for them.
He knew exactly what he was doing. Every cold threat, every slammed palm, every quiet "don't touch him" was a message to a house that had spent years teaching two kids they didn't matter. He was building a wall—not around himself this time, but around Nico and Sophia.
And all the while, that framed photo of Adriana Vitale sat in the house like a reminder. His wife. A woman he'd never met, off handling a shipment that couldn't wait. A woman who would eventually come home, bloodstained and untouchable, to find a stranger living in her mansion, eating at her table, and rearranging her entire household.
The question isn't whether Damian can handle Lorenzo and Salvatore. He already has them shaking.
The question is what happens when the mafia queen walks through that door and sees a "psycho" standing between her and her children—and has to decide whether he's a threat, or exactly the protector her kids have been waiting for.
